HerTorah: “What’s To Come?” Series: Rethinking Disability in Community
REIMAGINING OUR FUTURE: WHAT COULD OUR JEWISH WORLD LOOK LIKE POST-COVID?
Living through a pandemic has brought many changes to our lives and to the ways we relate to our Jewish traditions + institutions. How did those changes open up new opportunities in thinking about what our Jewish world + practice might look like?
Let’s think and learn together about what our post-Covid Jewish world might look like.
During this pandemic, all of us have experienced some element of exclusion from some spaces as well as new, radical inclusion and welcoming from other spaces. How can our increased sensitivity to exclusion and inclusion help us re-imagine what disability and belonging could look like in the Jewish community?
Join us in learning with Rabbanit Devorah Zlochower, Rosh Kollel of Yeshivat Maharat, who speaks from personal experience about re-working our community values when thinking about “inclusion”. Pamela Schuller, internationally known disability and mental health advocate, professional stand-up comedian, one of The Jewish Week “36 Under 36”, and the worst diagnosed case of Tourette Syndrome in the country, will share her story and her vision for an ideal community. We will have a chance to learn together, explore the developmental/cognitive disability communal experience, ask hard questions, and explore a vision of the community we want to build together.
Join us Wednesday 7/21 @ 8:00-9:30PM EST.
As always, the conversation won't be complete without you at our table. We want to be together with you. Tell a friend or family member to join in -- we would love to meet her, too!
Everyone’s talking about it. What will life be like post-pandemic? What will we return to? What will we do differently? What’s to come? We look forward to talking this through together with you.

HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another.
HerTorah is directed by Rabbanit Aliza Sperling, made possible in part by funds granted by the Covenant Foundation & the Aviv Foundation, presented in partnership with Maharat, and inspired by each one of us.
This gathering welcomes women* 12+ and learners of all backgrounds.
SVIVAH is dependent on the generosity of those who choose to invest in a powerful community of women. As always, cost should never be a barrier to anything SVIVAH, but if you can, please help us show respect to our speakers/facilitators for their time and expertise. www.svivah.org/donate
