HerTorah
“To A Place You Do Not Know”
Exploring Genesis through a lens of personal Lech Lecha stories
Featuring Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadeh, Rabbi Katja Vehlow, Maharat Miriam Gonczarska
Plus Shoshana Akabas from New Neighbors Partnership and Rabbi Sarah Bassin from HIAS
offered in partnership with JIMENA
From the very beginning, the Jewish people are a nation of immigrants. Avraham and Sarah leave their homeland to journey to an unknown land. While their son Isaac is born in the Land of Israel, his wife Rebecca has an immigration story of her own. Join us as we think about these stories of uprooting and re-rooting, in the Torah texts and our own lives. Guided by teachers Rabbi Katja Vehlow, Rabbi Tarlan Rabizadeh, and Maharat Miriam Gonczarska, we will explore the particular challenges and opportunities when making a home somewhere new. Leaders from HIAS and Shoshana Akabas from New Neighbors Partnership will also join us to help us understand more about the immigrant experience and speak about how we can help immigrants today.
Come when you can; stay till you can’t. But, come.
Our learning is incomplete without you.
Join us Wednesday evening 11/2 @ 8:15-9:45pm EST
Please invite someone you think might want to be with us, too.
HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another.
HerTorah is directed by Rabbanit Aliza Sperling, made possible in part by support of the Aviv Foundation and inspired by each one of us.
This gathering welcomes women* 12+ and learners of all backgrounds.
SVIVAH is dependent on the generosity of those who choose to invest in a powerful community of women. As always, cost should never be a barrier to anything SVIVAH, but if you can, please help us show respect to our speakers/facilitators for their time and expertise. www.svivah.org/donate
