HerTorah: Did You Hear What Happened To Dina? Responses to Abuse in the Torah + Today

Featuring Dr. Guila Benchimol and Rabbi Mira Beth Wasserman

In partnership with SRE Network

The Biblical story of the assault of Dina and its violent aftermath makes for difficult reading. Many of us have been impacted by cases of abuse - personally and communally. In our upcoming HerTorah session victim advocate and researcher Dr. Guila Benchimol and scholar/advocate Rabbi Mira Wasserman will teach this difficult text, offering us a greater understanding of the survivor experience and exploring how communities can respond to cases of gender-based violence.

Join us on Tuesday, December 6th between 8:15-9:45pm ET, for this sensitive and critical conversation in partnership with the SRE Network. This will be hard and important learning. We are grateful to be doing it together with you.

Our learning will be led by Dr. Guila Benchimol, a prominent researcher and educator on sexual violence and communal responsibility, and Rabbi Mira Beth Wasserman, Director of the Center for Jewish Ethics and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. We are grateful to have Rina Phillips, LCSW-C, joining us as well to offer additional emotional support during our time together.

As always, our learning is incomplete without you.

Please invite someone you think might want to be with us, too. See additional support resources below.

Join us Tuesday 12/6 @ 8:15-9:45pm EST

Please note that this sensitive conversation will be about sexual victimization. We acknowledge that these important conversations may be difficult and painful. We encourage you to take the care you need for your well-being and safety if you would like to participate.

HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another.

HerTorah is directed by Rabbanit Aliza Sperling, made possible in part by funds granted by the Aviv Foundation + SRE Network and inspired by each one of us.
