HerTorah: Jewish Heroines You’ve Never Heard Of

Celebrating "Hag HaBanot,” Eid al Benat: A Sephardic Celebration of Womanhood

Join us in the customs of this beautiful holiday celebrating women*s friendship and learn about some remarkable Sephardic heroine from our incredible scholars.

Celebrate Hag HaBanot/Eid al Benat with us!

Hag HaBanot (translation, "celebration of women") is a ritual celebration of sisterhood that finds its roots in North African Sephardic communiites. We will share some of the customs of this beautiful, feminist holiday celebrating women*s relationships and learn about remarkable Sephardic heroines from our incredible scholars.

As part of our Hag HaBanot celebration, we will traditionally welcome girls who will/have become bat mitzvah this year into this special community of Jewish women! Please invite the fabulous young women* you know so that we can celebrate them!

This gathering welcomes women* 10+ and learners of all backgrounds.

SVIVAH is dependent on the generosity of those who choose to invest in a powerful community of women. Cost should never be a barrier to anything SVIVAH, but if you can, please help us show respect to our speakers/facilitators for their time and expertise. www.svivah.org/donate

Join us in learning from these incredible scholars as they share histories of powerful Sephardic women* leaders, along with the rituals and traditions of this North African feminist celebration of Jewish womanhood! Click on their photos to learn more about our scholars.

*SVIVAH defines "Jewish woman" as anyone wishing to be included in a circle of Jewish women. If you want to be here, we want you to be here.

HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another. HerTorah is directed by Rabbanit Aliza Sperling, made possible in part by the Aviv Foundation, and inspired by each one of you.
