Shavuot HerTorah

Show Me The Way

Featuring Dr. Susie Tanchel, Shira Schiowitz, Naomi Oxman MSW LICSW, Elizabeth Mandel, and R’ Aliza Sperling

Mentors. Role Models. Following. Being Followed.

What does it mean to guide others on their life journey? What do we look for what we seek guidance for ourselves?

We’ve been reflecting lately on how often we find ourselves saying, β€œThis is a moment in history like never before.”

It is unnerving to be navigating such uncharted territory. And we often find ourselves wishing we had someone to show us the way. A thoughtful guide to help us find clarity and our own voice in the middle of so much noise.

And how do we guide people in colleges or public high schools? How can we guide them well when we’re not experiencing what they are; we’re not there with them on the ground? What is our role? How are we supposed to show up?

What is the nature of this vulnerable but essential relationship? It’s different from the parent-child relationship.

The Book of Ruth is about someone (Ruth) who takes a huge leap in her life to follow someone (Naomi) who is supposed to be a role model. We find ourselves asking: How can we be a guide for someone else and yet allow them to walk their own path in life, because they are the only person who knows what they need to do?

Join us for this exploration of relationships in the Book of Ruth that apply today.

Come when you can, stay till you can’t. But, come. Our learning is incomplete without you.

Join us Thursday 6/6 @ 8:15-9:45pm ET

Please invite someone you think might want to be with us, too.

HerTorah gathers together a diverse community of Jewish women to connect over our shared heritage, explore our collective wisdom, and elevate our communal experience in learning with and from one another.

HerTorah is directed by Rabbanit Aliza Sperling, made possible in part by support of the Aviv Foundation, The Covenant Foundation, and inspired by each one of us.
